Nobel Prize in economics awarded to Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson for auction theory
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2020 to Paul R. Milgrom (Stanford University, USA) and Robert B. Wilson (Stanford University, USA) “for improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats”. Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson were recognized for theoretical discoveries that improved how auctions work.
Dutch government consults auction procedure for DAB+ frequencies (layer 7)
The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy consults the auction procedure for the allocation of licenses for the use of frequencies in the so-called layer 7 of band III for commercial digital radio broadcasting.
Dutch government kicks off 5G spectrum auction
The Dutch 5G spectrum auction started today at 10am. The auction includes frequencies in the 700 MHz, 1400 MHz and 2100 MHz bands. The three MNO’s (KPN, T-Mobile Netherlands and VodafoneZiggo) will take part in the auction.
Finland’s 26GHz auction concluded
The auction of 26GHz spectrum arranged by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (TRAFICOM) was concluded on 8 June 2020, the same day as it started.
Finnish 5G auction concluded
The auction of 3.5 GHz spectrum arranged by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) was concluded on 1 October 2018. The band 3410 – 3800 MHz was auctioned in 3 blocks (130 MHz each) with a spectrum cap of 130 MHz.

US Incentive Auction has started today
Today FCC’s 600 MHz Incentive Auction (Auction 1000) has started. The Incentive Auction includes a reverse auction (Auction 1001) in which broadcasters will offer to voluntarily relinquish some or all of their spectrum usage rights and a forward auction (Auction 1002) of new, flexible-use licenses suitable for providing mobile broadband services. Auctiometrix is advising one of the bidders in this auction.
Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs will auction DAB+ frequencies for commercial radio via a simultaneous multiple-round auction
As of August 31, 2017 the licenses for analogue (FM) and digital (DAB+) commercial radio will expire. DG Telecom Market of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs intends in 2017 to extend the current FM/DAB+ licenses (9 national and 38 regional) by five years and to auction the new DAB+ frequencies in Band III.
